About the Authors:

Dr. Anjum Maqbool Ahmed (MBBS, MBA, MIS)

Dr. Anjum Maqbool Ahmed began his clinical career as a General Physician, and over the last 26 years has been focused on digital health solutions strategy development, deployment, governance and change management initiatives. Dr. Ahmed has helped set the path towards evidence-based application of new innovations for healthcare organizations across USA, Canada, UK, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Latin America.

Based in the Province of Ontario, Canada, Dr. Ahmed is an experienced professional in healthcare solutions innovation, having currently and previously held roles such as Global Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Safety Officer, Global Director of Artificial Imaging and Enterprise Imaging, Healthcare IT Solutions Executive, and Head of Medical Services at top-tier healthcare solution providers.

Dr. Ahmed has led the development and deployment of several industry first solutions on clinical informatics and AI with the aim of focusing on the pressing health challenges faced by public health authorities, thought leading academic institutes, hospitals, and government organizations, to help implement value-based care models, improve diagnostic and predictive intelligence, and maximize value from health IT investments.

Dr. Ahmed has to his credit the conceptualization, execution and evaluation of the first AI in medical imaging project with a cross functional team of experts from Belgium, Austria, USA and UAE, in 2015-2017, focusing on Chest X-Rays. The findings were presented at the European Respiratory Society’s Journal in 2018.

Dr. Ahmed has presented, and has been interviewed at leading medical societies and congresses including HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) USA, SIIM (Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine) USA, RSNA (Radiological Society of North America), RCR (Royal College of Radiologists), UKIO (UK Imaging and Oncology Congress), JPR Brazil, Arab Health Dubai, ESR (European Society of Radiology) Austria, RANZCR (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists) and others. including Pan Arab Association of Radiology Societies, in recognition of his global expertise on innovative technologies in healthcare.

Besides MBBS, MBA, MIS and ITIL certifications, Dr. Ahmed completed the International Physician Leadership Program from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health – Boston USA.

Dr. Anjum Ahmed dedicates this book to the cherished memory of his late father who passed away in April 2024, and thanks his mother, his better half Dr. Sania, and children Du’aa, Lamees and Ali for their unwavering encouragement. Without their inspiration, this work would not have been possible. Their presence, both in his heart and life, keeps him innovating further with purpose and gratitude.

Dr. Po-Hao “Howard” Chen is a clinical informaticist, physician-administrator, and musculoskeletal radiologist passionate about improving lives through the disciplined implementation of technology. With over a decade of experience in clinical informatics, Dr. Chen has become a thought leader in evaluating, validating, deploying, and monitoring AI at scale to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Chen spends his clinical time working with patients in the radiology-guided procedure suites and reviewing diagnostic studies in the reading room.

After receiving his MD and MBA degrees from Harvard University, and his clinical and informatics training at University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Chen is currently based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Dr. Chen has currently and previously held roles including Vice Chair of Artificial Intelligence, Chief Imaging Informatics Officer, and IT Medical Director in Enterprise Radiology. He has led several complex hardware and software implementations in a large, multi-state healthcare delivery organization.

Dr. Chen is actively involved in national and international professional organizations, including having currently or previously served as the co-chair of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Data Science Summit, chair of ACR Informatics Advisory Council, chair of SPIE Medical Imaging Symposium’s Imaging Informatics Conference, chair of Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA) Informatics Policy Committee, and chair of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) Cybersecurity Subcommittee. Dr. Chen is the co-inventor of two AI-related patents in the US Patent and Trademark Office and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and has given interviews for news stories, periodical articles and has written blog posts on artificial intelligence and imaging informatics.

Dr. Chen dedicates his contributions in this book to Bolin, his better half who makes success possible, and to Connor and Dylan, whose curiosity and joy are the compass that keeps him moving forward.
